It was not the first time the 500-year-old painting has been attacked.
PARIS — An angry Russian woman tossed a terracotta mug at the Mona Lisa during a visit to the Louvre museum in Paris, on Aug. 2, the Louvre said on Tuesday.
This incident happened on the first Sunday of August, traditionally opens its doors for free, hence attracts much larger crowds.
The Da Vinci masterpiece, which is protected by bulletproof glass, was undamaged. “The work is intact, and viewing was only disturbed the time it took to pick up the pieces,” said David Madec, a Louvre spokesman.
The woman was arrested and was taken to the police psychiatric infirmary. Though she is released, but may face legal action from the museum.
